/ Ein Novum: Collagen von Silvia Bächli

/ Kunst im Dialog mit der Lyrik von Florian Seidel

The collaboration of the internationally renowned Swiss draftswoman Silvia Bächli and the Munich-based, multiple prizewinning author Florian Seidel gives rise to a veritable artists’ book: Mund zu Mund. Seidel’s “word pictures,” his subtle lyrical aphorisms, are combined in a congenial way with the visual poetry of Bächli’s collages, a medium to which the artist has dedicated herself in this way for the first time. Her works on paper since the late nineteen-eighties and her photographs, which have primarily been created in the past ten years, are in a certain sense latently characterized by a spirit of the collage-like. The presentation of her works in the respectively differently assembled wall tableaus that she has invented opens up new spaces for our creative imagination.

The extremely enigmatic quality of Seidel’s figures of speech, with their floating wealth of associations, “between petal and leather, skin and cocoa, as elusive as a stealthy animal,” find their equivalent in Bächli’s method of fragmenting, shifting, and alienating very heterogeneous image details. In their mixture of vagueness and structure, of hermeticism and clarity, they expand on the linguistic level of the poet and enhance its “readability.”

SILVIA BÄCHLI was born in in Baden, Switzerland, in 1956. She studied at the Schule für Gestaltung (School of Design) in Basel and at the Ecole supérieur d’art visuel in Geneva. From 1992 to 2016, she was a professor at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste (State Academy of Fine Arts) in Karlsruhe. Her works are represented in important international museums: the Centre Pompidou in Paris, MoMa in New York, the MMK in Frankfurt am Main, the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, et al.

FLORIAN SEIDEL was born in Munich in 1966. He studied modern German literature, history, philosophy, and macroeconomics.
