/ Lots to discover at the Stucks!

The interactive book Franz & Mary: At Home with the Stucks invites readers to take a journey of discovery through the Stuck villa. In a playful, sensual, and humorous way, the book leads both young and old back to the era around 1900, with all of its delights and splendor. Franz von Stuck had a villa built in Munich in 1898, fulfilling his dream of a total work of art comprising architecture, furniture design, painting, and sculpture. Von Stuck was a painter, graphic designer, sculptor, and designer, and so the book also assembles a cornucopia of pictorial materials: illustrations, contemporary and historical photographs, comics, and collages. There are lots of “interactive” pages, with drawings to color in, puzzles, search-and-find games, crafting instructions, and a comic about the lives of the prominent artist Franz von Stuck and his wife Mary.

The illustrated, interactive book by Ulrike Steinke (*1975) is being published in celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Villa Stuck Museum, which officially opened in 1968.
